Barbeques in Bucharest
Romania is a beautiful country that is full of different contrasts from bustling cities to beautiful mountainous regions. The Transylvanian alps are dotted with many ski resorts. Bucharest is a city with many interesting attractions. The main strip Calea Victoriei, sparkles by night and is a great place to hang out, watch the world go by and grab pizza by the slice and an ice-cream amid a sea of ice-cream shops. Perhaps the most famous attraction in Bucharest is The People’s palace or Palace of the Parliament. With a width of 270 metres, a length of 240m and a height of 86 metres, the twelve-storey impressive structure is a sight to behold with its majestic staircases and incredible chandeliers.
Two other main attractions in Romania further out from Bucharest are Bran Castle (perhaps better known as Dracula’s castle) and Peles Castle with its amazing woodwork, furniture, statues, and artwork. Coming from Australia where putting a shrimp on the barbie is a cultural icon, I was astounded when I asked a Bucharest local, what constitutes good mental health and wellbeing in Romania? He said: “We go to the mountains or to the forest, and we often have barbeques with our friends.”
