Nordic Walking in Warsaw
Warsaw is the capital city of Poland. It is a very interesting city. The old town which was largely destroyed in World War 2 has been reconstructed and the picturesque buildings are a multi-coloured photographers’ dream. The Palace on the water is a beautiful and peaceful place to take a stroll or grab some lunch.
I asked a local what constitutes good mental health and wellbeing in Warsaw, and she replied: “Eating good and nutritious food, thinking well, riding a scooter as opposed to driving a car and Nordic walking.”
Intrigued, I had never heard of Nordic walking, nor had I expected to hear about it in Poland, so I did a bit of research. I found out that Nordic working originated in Finland. It involves walking with specially designed walking poles. According to Harvard Medical School, it typically involves moving more muscles and burning off more calories than traditional walking. It may also have cardiovascular benefits.
